  • None
Facility/Playground Needs

Open Space such as a multi-use room or blacktop (carpeted area or a mat per pair would be ideal)

Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Supporting and Balance.

Teaching Hints:

Ask for two volunteers to demonstrate a successful "Get-up" so the class will have a better understanding of the expectations.

Pairs that are similar heights may have an easier time with this.

Description:

Partners, stand back to back with elbows locked.

Bracing themselves against each other's back; then lower themselves to the sitting position with their legs out.

To do this, have them take short walking steps away from each other.

To rise, have students bend their knees and draw their feet up close to their body.

Students should push with their legs, bracing against their partner's back, and rise to the standing position.

Alternatives / Modifications After pairs have had several successful attempts, ask them to get in groups of three. Each student should link elbows with the person on either side and attempt the "get-up" as described above.
