Kong Pong 3 - 6
Equipment Needs
  • Volleyball net (if one is not available you can use a piece of rope tied between two poles)
  • Foam ball, beach ball or volleyball (depending on the skill level).
Facility/Playground Needs Blacktop
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive): To have students cooperate together and encourage each other.
Teaching Hints:
  • Remind students to work together to get the ball over the net.
Description:

Divide the class into two teams. Using volleyball sized court and nets (or rope) organize a front, middle, and back line of students for each team. You can make the net or rope higher or lower depending on the students.

To start play, the student in the right back line position on team A moves as close as desired to the net and throws the ball over it. He or she then returns to the back line.

Once the ball is in play, students must stay within their own space and line. Players on team B try to catch the ball before it bounces four times. If they succeed, they throw it back over the net from their position or pass it to someone closer to the net. If team B does not catch the ball before the fourth bounce, the next person in the back line of team A serves the ball over the net. If team B misses the ball, team A gets a point. If team A does not get the ball over the net on the serve or during play, team B serves. If a player moves out of their position, the other team gets a point.

Rotate the teams by lines and then by individual positions.

Alternatives/Modifications
  • As the student’s skill level progresses, decrease the number of bounces allowed.
  • If a team catches a ball on the fly they receive a point.
  • Give points for passing and good sportsmanship (e.g. if a student says “Good try!” or “Good catch” give a point to their team.
  • Play the entire game on good sportsmanship points.
