Slalom Blindfold 4 - 6
Equipment Needs

For each team:

  • Five cones
  • 5-6 wands (or some other objects which can be used to tap the ground)
  • a blindfold
Facility/Playground Needs Blacktop
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive): To refine body and spatial awareness. Enhance concentration skills. Use positive interactions to plan and guide teammates.
Teaching Hints:
  • Once the student who has completed the course, the person who is next in line needs to either leave the room or close their eyes, so the course can be rearranged, otherwise they will know basically where to go.
  • Tapping students should tap wands in unison and close together to provide a clear “sound pathway” for the blindfolded player.
Description:

One student in each group is blindfolded. The remaining students in the group tap wands on the ground, attempting to guide a blindfolded teammate through a slalom course of five cones. This course is 30 feet long with cones spaced five feet apart. After practice, teams can work toward moving the blind folded player quickly through the course. Rotate positions so all players have turns going through the course.

Alternatives/Modifications
  • Change the cone arrangement for the slalom course.
  • Use obstacles of varying size and shape for slalom course
