Activity Grade Level
Balloon Fooseball 4 - 6
Equipment Needs
  • Balloons (the number is up to you)
Facility/Playground Needs Inside the classroom, with the students sitting at their desks. This is a perfect rainy day activity!!
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive): To have students cooperate with each other to achieve a common goal.
Teaching Hints:
  • Remind students they must remain seated throughout the activity.
  • Don’t allow students to use negative comments or putdowns. Remind them that this is a cooperative activity and they can only say positive things.
Description:

All students are sitting at their desks. One-row sits facing in one direction while the other row faces in the opposite direction (like in fooseball). This sitting pattern is followed and maintained for as many rows exist. If possible, try to have the same number of rows facing each direction.

The teacher begins the activity by tossing four to five balloons into the seating area. All students tap the balloons in the direction they are facing.

The objective is for the players to move the balloons toward the end of the room they are facing by cooperating with others facing the same direction.

All students must remain seated throughout the activity.

Alternatives/Modifications
  • Add in more balloons as the students gain a better understanding of the game. The more balloons, the more active they will be.
  • Give points for positive comments made and teamwork.
