||||
| Teaching Hints: |

|
Play the music and have students move around at their own pace. Stop the music and call out a number. The students need to form groups of that number. Do this a few times and then call out the number three. These will now be the groups for the dance. Each group gets one hula hoop and must hold it with their left hand. Go around and mark their left hands with a black dot. Start the music: First Verse: "Circle to the left of the old brass wagon" - Students hold the hoop with their left hands and skip around the hoop. Second Verse: "Circle to the right the old brass wagon"-Students hold the hoop with their right hands and skip around the hoop. Third Verse: "Everyone in the old brass wagon"-Students hold the hoop up and get inside pulling the hoop down around their waists. They may jump in the circle. Fourth Verse: "Everybody out the old brass wagon"-Students duck their heads down pulling the hoop back over their heads and step out. Then they continue to skip around while holding hoop with their left hands. The ending:There is a banjo at the end that plays a few last notes. Instruct the students to drop the hoop and everyone sits inside before the banjo finishes the song. |
