Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Practice a variety of movements to a specific beat. Follow a leader while moving.

Teaching Hints:

Be sure to make up movements that fit the developmental levels of your students. With this rhythmic activity you can repeat a movement until everyone has it down.

Description:

While playing an upbeat song with a strong beat, have the children follow your lead by moving in time with the music. Some suggested movements are:

  1. Walk in place
  2. Walk forward and backward
  3. Jump on every beat
  4. Jump on every other beat
  5. Clap on every other beat
  6. Clap, clap, and hold two counts
  7. Clap, clap, and stomp foot twice
  8. Clap, stomp, clap, stomp
  9. Clap hands above head, below knees
  10. Etc., be creative, and have fun!
