Equipment Needs
  • Any music you like.
  • Colorful streamers (one per student)
Facility/Playground Needs Classroom or blacktop
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Creative movements and arm patterns

Teaching Hints:

You may want to vary this activity by using poly spots as personal space to ensure that students are a safe distance away from classmates. Have students move around during music and when it periodically stops, they need to get to a new poly spot as quickly as possible and continue moving the streamers from a stationary position.

Description:

Alternatives/Modifications

Each student will need a streamer. Tell students to find a good personal space where they can freely move their streamer without interfering with their classmates' movements. When the music begins, the students are to move their streamers using as many arm patterns as possible. Encourage them to be creative. Students can make up their own routines if they desire, but they do have to be moving the entire time the music is playing. Cue students on movement ideas if they are having a hard time creating their own (make letters in the air, move streamer high/med/low, switch hands, through legs, make shapes in the air).
