Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Students explore a variety of rhythms by moving to the beat of the drum.

Teaching Hints:

The teacher may tell the students what type of movement to do, or have them select them select the movement to do to the drumbeat. Practice all movements with even and uneven drumbeats.

Description:

Students are spread out in the general space. When the teacher begins to beat the drum, students follow the beat of the talking drum. Students should change movements according to the speed and intensity of the beats. The teacher can suggest movement changes in directions, levels, pathways, body parts, etc..

Alternatives/Modifications

Using other equipment, such as beanbags or ribbons, may be a strong addition to this activity.
