Equipment Needs Music player and music -"The Bunny Hop"
Facility/Playground Needs Space big enough for group to partner dance (30 x 30 paces)
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Locomotor skills, rhythm/timing, and balance

Teaching Hints:
  • Explain and demonstrate basic movements before playing the music.
  • Practice movements individually with music and, after they have mastered the basic steps, move them into partners.
  • Remind students that jump is done on two feet.
  • Continue to "grow" group sizes until students are ready to move together in one long single file line.
Description:

Individuals scatter within area. Begin movement after 8 count introduction.

  1. Touch your R foot to your R side, then back in place 2xs.
  2. Touch your L foot to your L side, then back in place 2xs.
  3. Jump forward 1x.
  4. Jump backward 1x.
  5. Jump forward 3xs.
  6. Repeat

In partners

"Back-to-Back" One partner turn and stand behind your friend; face the same direction. Place your hands on your partner's shoulders.

Jump forward and backward carefully so as not to touch anyone's feet.

Remember to start with your R foot.

In single file line

Stay together everyone is linked. Don't break the snake!

Alternatives/Modifications

After mastering dance individually, try partner dancing, and then even with whole class in one single file line!
