Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Cardiovascular endurance

Teaching Hints:

Teach each part, providing sufficient practice time, and list the sequence, along with cues on chart paper to help the remember the sequence.

Emphasize keeping time with the music.

Take pulse rate checks before and immediately after the workout.

Have participants find a free space and stand facing you.

Ensure that all can see clearly.

Description:

This routine consists of 4 parts that are repeated through from beginning to end until the music ends.

  1. Looking-Up lifts: Lift your right knee to the right side and snap fingers in the air. (Count 1) Lift your left knee to the left side and snap fingers in the air. (Count 2) Repeat for 8 counts. Let your eyes look up toward your fingers.
  2. Clap Unders: Clap hands under raised right leg. (Count 1) Clap hands under raised left leg. (Count 2) Repeat for 8 counts.
  3. Lungers: Stand tall, then lunge forward with the right leg, raising hands upward. Return to starting position, dropping hands to sides (s counts). Lunge forward with the left leg, raising hands upward. Return to starting position (2 counts) Repeat for 8 counts.
  4. Do side straddle Jumps for 8 counts. Jump feet and hands apart; then jump feet together, hands at sides.
  5. Do Forward Straddle Jumps for 8 counts. Alternately jump one foot forward and the other back while swinging arms in rhythm.
  6. Do Cross-Over Jumps for 8 counts. Jump feet and hands apart; then jump crossing feet and arms.
  7. Repeat entire sequence from the beginning until music stops.

Alternatives/Modifications

Add on other movements to build the routine.

Have the students suggest a 5th part to the routine that involves a "lifting up" action.
