Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Improve fitness.

Associate fitness activity with fun.

Teaching Hints:

None

Description:

This activity is exactly what it says, although there are always variations.

The teacher picks a leader or several leaders who, in turn, will lead smaller groups rather than the whole class.

The leader picks from a pool of teacher offered locomotor movements and performs the activity while others follows.

Students can hop, skip, jump, gallop, slide, crabwalk, or use high knees - the list is endless. Students can even stop their locomotor movements and perform stationary type activities (sit-ups or push-ups) or other related nonlocomotor movements.

Leaders should be changed throughout this activity period.

Alternatives/Modifications

Leaders can be given a list of fitness activities by the teacher from whom they can select.

Furthermore, students should be urged to create their own fitness movements/activities.
