Alphabet Tag K - 3
Equipment Needs
  • None
Facility/Playground Needs This activity can be played anywhere, inside or outside.
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Improve fitness.

Connecting physical activity with the development of the alphabet.

Teaching Hints:

Student may tag too hard and push people over.

Make sure that students are aware of the space around them so that they are aware of others.

Description:

Choose a student, or several students to be "it".

When the person who is "it" tags someone, they tell him or her a letter of the alphabet to freeze as.

The student tagged must hold the form of that letter until someone can guess what letter they are. Once another guesses what letter they are they are unfrozen and can begin running around.

Change student/s who are "it" throughout the game.

Alternatives/Modifications

For young students, using only part of the alphabet may be appropriate. The teacher could set a rule and announce what letters are to be used during the game.
