Circuits K - 8
Equipment Needs
  • scarves, jumpropes, stomp boards, hula hoops, beanbags, chinese jump ropes, etc.
Facility / Playground Needs classroom or gym
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Increase cardiovascular endurance.

Improve gross motor skills.

Teaching Hints:

Introduce only one piece of unfamiliar equipment per PE period. Have a routine for the students to follow as you enter the gym, so they know what to do as the equipment is being set up; for example, students routinely enter gym and walk 2 laps, then run 2 laps.

Description:

Set up a variety of stations for students to work at in small groups. Adjust the stations to fit your space needs. Students rotate from station to station every few minutes as you indicate. At each station they perform the task that you’ve explained: jump roping, scarf juggling, hula hooping, push ups, target practice with the beanbags, balancing objects such as bats, brooms, peacock feathers, dowels, etc.

Alternatives / Modifications

Use the activities that fit your students and space requirements.

Can alternate calisthenic stations with "fun" stations.

Additional station ideas: sit ups, jumping jacks, stretching, running in place, bowling (use 2 liter soda bottles or Pringles cans with sand in the bottom), basketball (traditional or using nerf balls and hoops), tin can stilts, medicine ball catch, falling down, balance boards, ping pong balls and paddles, bean bag target throw or balancing (balance the bag on your shoulders, head, etc), simple catch with a partner and a variety of objects, frisbee target throw...et c.
