Musical Ball Pass K - 3
Equipment Needs
  • One or two playground balls per group
  • Music
Facility/Playground Needs A blacktop or field area.
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Students will practice ball passing and handling (Developmental Level I Skills).

Teaching Hints:

To avoid arguments, a player must go to the center if the ball is in his/her hands or on the way to her.

Description:

Break the class into a number of small groups (6-7 players) in circle formation facing the center.

One ball is given to a player in each circle and is passed around the circle when the music starts.

When the music stops, the player with the ball (or the last player to touch the ball) goes into the well in the center of the circle.

The player stays in the center for one turn.

Alternatives/Modifications

More than one ball may be used.

The size of the circle (the distance between students) can also vary depending on students' age and abilities.

Teachers may also incorporate a bounce pass, chest pass, etc. to alter the lesson.
