Students will practice passing, catching, and moving to an open area.
Teaching Hints:
Emphasis should be placed on spreading out and using the entire court area. If players do not spread out, the area can be broken into quadrants and players restricted to one quadrant.
Description:
Players are scattered around the play area.
One team begins with the ball.
he object is to complete five consecutive passes without the ball touching the floor.
The team without the ball attempts to intercept the ball or recover an incomplete pass.
Each time a pass is caught, the team shouts the number of consecutive passes completed.
Each time a ball touches the floor or is intercepted, the count starts over.
Players may not contact each other.
Alternatives/Modifications
Teachers of younger students may want to start by having the children close together and practice as a team for a while first (without the competition.)
Students at a higher skill level can be required to reach a higher number of consecutive catches, or try to set records.
Teachers might also vary the kinds of passes (bounce pass, chest pass, overhead, etc.) and/or spread out the students more.
The game can also be played without moving around at first, so that students are able to focus more on passing and catching without being guarded.
