| Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive): |
This activity focuses on footwork and the dribbling technique. |
| Teaching Hints: | Explain and demonstrate what dribbling is- a series of short kicks or taps along the ground, usually alternating the feet to contact the ball. It allows the dribbler to maintain possession of the ball. | ||||
| Description: | |||||
Scatter several cone markers throughout the play area and have the students get a ball. Students dribble the ball by using only the inside of the foot, not the toe, and keep the ball close in order to maintain better control. The object of the game is to dribble the ball around the play area without touching a cone, another ball, or another player. Tell them that on signal "Change" they have to exchange their soccer ball with another player and continue. Once students have some control, have them try using the outside of the foot. Challenge them to use the inside and outside of either foot. |
| Alternatives/Modifications |
For less skilled students, they can form a circle of six to eight and face each other inward. Using the inside of the foot, they pass the ball across the circle to an opposite player; then follow the pass and take the position of that player, who will have vacated that spot by the time they get there. | ||||
