Return the ball (Relay) 1 - 2
Equipment Needs 1 ball/ 3-4 students, lines marked 5 to 8 yards apart on blacktop
Facility/Playground Needs Blacktop
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

The purpose of this lesson is to develop the skill of dribbling as used in such games as basketball.

Teaching Hints:
  • Keep teams small (3-4 students) to reduce wait time.
  • When dribbling, students should have spread fingers as they push the ball down gently, do not slap.
  • Control with the finger pads.
  • Students should try to dribble low to the ground and keep their head up.
Description:

Teams of three or four are lined up at least six feet from the other teams. All teams would be lined up on the same line and facing the same direction.

Player #1 dribbles the ball with one hand to the designated line five to eight yards away.

Player #1 crosses the line, pivots and bounce passes the ball to player #2 who must wait behind the line until the ball arrives.

Player #2 dribbles across the line, pivots and passes to player #3. When all players cross the line the relay round is over. Start back the other way.
