  • 1 ball / student

Facility/Playground Needs Field or blacktop
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

The purpose of this game is to develop the skills of dribbling while playing cooperatively with others.

Teaching Hints:
  • Students need to have been given time to practice and develop dribbling skills in order to participate in this game.
  • To maintain full participation, do not let the number of balls be less than half of the number of students.
Description:

Divide the class into two teams facing each other in a line 40 yards apart. Balls are placed in a line centered between the two teams. Start with 2 - 4 fewer balls than there are players. The object of the game is to score a point by getting a ball and dribbling it back to your line. On command, all run to mid-field, try to secure a ball, and dribble it back to starting line. Players without a ball attempt to "legally" gain control of one. Return balls to the mid-line on command. After each round, take away 1 - 2 more balls.

Alternatives/Modifications

In order for everyone to receive a point, you may need to start with the same number of balls and students for the first couple of rounds.
