Faculty Services

Keeping Up-To-Date

  • Faculty are encouraged to be in frequent contact with the librarians in order to keep one another apprised of the latest changes in resources, services, and curriculum; to discuss collaboration opportunities or other needs & concerns; or to let us know about your new publications.
  • What's New in the Library - our biannual update.
  • Personal update — (SSU faculty only) A librarian will meet with you or your department (in your office or in the library) to do personalized training on new databases, highlight new resources, as well as answer questions or hear your concerns.

Accessing the Library's Collections

Borrowing privileges

  • Borrowing privileges — SSU faculty (tenured, tenure-track, emeritus, temporary, and Extended Education) may check out books for one semester. All items are due back either August 31 or January 31, depending on the semester it was checked out.
  • Renewals — items may be renewed once online through My Library Record. Otherwise bring items to the Circulation Desk.
  • Fines — Faculty are subject to the same fines as other borrowers, and there is no grace period.
  • Recall — Books are subject to recall after 28 days. Make sure to check your SSU email account for recall notices.

Reserves

Interlibrary Services

  • LINK+ — borrow books directly from this resource-sharing service with over 8 million items and more than 40 libraries (2-4 day delivery).
  • Interlibrary Services — when we don't have an item, we'll request it for you (7-10 day delivery). Articles sent to us digitally are posted to the web for you to pick up.
  • Infotrieve (SSU faculty only) — request articles we don't own to be faxed directly to you. To set up an account, email Raye Lynn Thomas.

Library instruction & information competence

eLearning support

  • Contact the Web Office for assistance in creating and managing your WebCT courses.
  • Librarians can help you customize access to library resources for a specific WebCT course, provide links (persistent URLS or PURLS) to electronic journals, articles and saved searches, and collaborate on eLearning projects. Contact Sheila Cunningham (707-664-3310) for more information.

Distance Education Instructors

  • Please read (and ask your students to read) the Distance Education Students page to see what services we can offer and what we need from instructors in order to make the distance education experience work smoothly.

Photocopies of library materials

  • Faculty needing photocopies from a non-circulating item (journal article or reference book, for example) may use the library's faculty copier for single copies at no charge.
  • Do not use this copier for items that can be checked out, for multiple copies of an item, for class handouts, or personal copies.
  • The copier is located near the Reference Desk, second floor (north); ask for assistance.

Faculty Research Showcase

  • Your research on any subject pertaining to the North Bay is sought for inclusion in the North Bay Regional Collection.
  • We can preserve your research in print format for loan and archival purposes or upload to the North Bay Regional web site.
  • If already online, send us the url so we can create a link to your work.
  • Contact Dayle Reilly for more information.
