We invite you to join us for an evening of musical collaborations. The SSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble presents President Judy Sakaki as guest narrator in Aaron Copland’s iconic Lincoln Portrait. As narrator, Dr. Sakaki will read excerpts from Lincoln's writings, including the Gettysburg Address.

The program will also include the Chabot Wind Symphony under the direction of Timothy Harris, performing John Krance’s masterful adaption of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana; and the SSU ensemble in Spanish composer Oscar Navarro’s Downey Overture, Ron Nelson’s Rocky Point Holiday, and Percy Grainger’s Colonial Song.

Dr. Robert Halseth, Professor of Music Emeritus and Director of Bands at California State University, Sacramento, will guest conduct the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. The program includes the Symphony of Vittorio Giannini and David Maslanka’s Morning Star.

The SSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble and guest faculty-soloists will perform on both days of the 5th Annual Sonoma Band & Orchestra Festival. This year's festival offers 30 high school ensembles from Northern California the chance to perform in Weill Hall and receive comments from nationally known band and orchestra directors.

Public performances by the ensembles begin every half hour from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm. Hosted by Dr. Andy Collinsworth, director of bands and music education.
