What I Do at SSU

I teach two classes each semester on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Every class I teach--from lower division general education to upper division theory--requires some kind of original music making. On Wednesday, the full day is devoted to one-on-one teaching. I teach many student composers; I also often serve as sponsor for independent studies, which I strongly encourage students to pursue. I love to advise students; I specialize in Liberal Art concentration advising, but am available for advising in all concentrations.

My Bio

Will Johnson was raised in Marietta, Georgia. He has an MA in composition from UC Berkeley and a BA in Music from Princeton. Since 1969 he has taught at SSU; most of his music-making has centered around the campus. He has written music for individual students, dance and drama productions and music department ensembles. His current musical interests are composition and improvisation, the effects of technology on the production and experience of music and the potential for music-making as a model for social interaction.
