Indian Singing Ensemble
The Indian Singing Ensemble is an unaccompanied chamber singing ensemble led by Dr. Laxmi G. Tewari. Students explore the philosophical and spiritual concept of Nada Brahma: the Universe is Sound; Music is Eternal Bliss. The class culminates in a performance of Hindustani classical vocal music.
A master vocalist and ethnomusicologist, Dr. Tewari teaches each song by rote, focusing on developing a sense of improvisation within each raga. Students receive first-hand knowledge about Dr. Tewari's life experiences, infusing their musical skills with a heightened awareness of the language, culture and traditions of India.
