Nick Grinder and Juanma Trujillo
Trombonist and composer Nick Grinder is a native San Franciscan and an alumnus of the Marin School of the Arts and CSU Northridge. He recently moved to New York and found himself performing with Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Alan Ferber & Arturo Sandoval, to name a few. For the opening jazz forum of Fall 2013, he teams up with his former CSU classmate Juanma Trujillo to showcase their diverse compositions.

John Fedchock
John Fedchock is simply one of the most amazing trombonists alive today. He served as lead trombonist, musical director and arranger for Woody Herman’s “Thundering Herd” in the 80’s. Today he leads his own critically acclaimed “New York Big Band” and “NY Sextet,” and is a regular on the Downbeat readers’ and critics’ polls. Make sure you catch this in-demand player and educator on his first SSU jazz forum appearance.

Julian Pollack Trio
At age 25, Julian Pollack is truly one of the young lions of the jazz scene. Another Bay Area native that moved to New York City, he has played with John Scofield, Miguel Zenon, Ari Hoenig, George Garzone and many others, amassing heaps of awards and critical acclaim along the way. He appears at SSU jazz forum with his trio in support of their new CD, Waves of Albion.

Matt Slocum Trio featuring Marcus Shelby & Adam Birnbaum
For his second SSU forum appearance, drummer and composer Matt Slocum rounds out his creative trio with prolific bassist & composer Marcus Shelby and the prodigious Adam Birnbaum on piano. Kathy Kosins
Vocalist Kathy Kosins is a true multiple threat. She began her career singing with the legendary Was/Not Was in the 80s. Since then, she has not only become a sought-after jazz singer; she is an award-winning composer, arranger, educator and accomplished painter! SSU Faculty Jazz Ensemble
The 8-piece SSU Faculty Jazz Ensemble brings over 300 years of combined musical experience to an intersection of jazz and free improvisation. The group is co-led by longtime SSU drum instructor George Marsh and jazz program director Doug Leibinger; it features SSU faculty Dave Scott, trumpet; Kasey Knudsen, saxophone; Ken Cook, piano; Randy Vincent, guitar; Cliff Hugo, bass; and Will Johnson, prepared piano & electronics.

Jim Snidero
Jim Snidero has played with the upper echelon of jazz for over 30 years – artists like Brother Jack McDuff, The Mingus Big Band, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Frank Sinatra & Sting to name a few. He has also become one of the most respected jazz educators in the world – for his first jazz forum appearance, Snidero will discuss his “Jazz Conception Company,” a series of groundbreaking multimedia educational tools for jazz students & teachers.

Getting Getting There
GMC 1029 is in Music Education Hall adjacent to the Green Music Center. Enter campus from Rohnert Park Expressway, proceed past the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Hall, turn right into Parking Lot L, and go up the stairs to the double glass doors.
Parking
Effective January 1, 2013, parking permits will be required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in all general, reserved and housing parking lots. Additionally, the daily rate for general parking permits will increase from $2.50 per day to $5 per day. The reserved parking daily rate will increase from $5 per day to $8.
Student, faculty and staff semester permits will not increase in price.
