Sonoma State University Receives Award to Support Multicultural Competence in the Classroom

Elisa Velasquez-Andrade (psychology) and Brett Christie (Center for Teaching and Professional Development) have received funding from the CSU Institute for Teaching and Learning for implementation of the one-year project, "Multicultural Competence: Building Knowledge, Awareness, and Skills." Seven faculty members will be involved in a Faculty Learning and Practice Community (FL&PC), with efforts focused on designing, implementing, and assessing multicultural competence revisions to one of their courses. The FL&PC will hold eight two-hour meetings, with additional project activities taking place in Moodle. Data collection will address type and effectiveness of course revisions, with particular attention toward the impact on related student outcomes.
