Exchange System Unifies Email and Calendaring

New system to replace MeetingMaker, February 28

microsoft_exchange.jpgIn an effort to improve and expand email and calendaring resources for faculty and staff, Information Technology (IT) will be moving all University employee email accounts from the current system to a Microsoft Exchange server.

For more than seven months, IT has planned, built and tested a new, unified email and calendaring system for the campus, built on Microsoft Exchange 2010. The anticipated launch date of the new system is Mon., February 28, 2011.

This will be a complete cut from the university's current email system, however, all email addresses will stay the same (username@sonoma.edu or first.last@sonoma.edu).


Those currently using MeetingMaker should note that the program will be going away, and will be replaced by the Exchange application which provides both email and calendering functions.


To get the full benefit of Exhange, IT recommends using Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2011, which are available in the newest versions of Office for Windows and Mac. Both are available to the campus community for installation on any university-owned computer, by simply contacting the IT Helpdesk (707.664.HELP). Other email clients will also work with Exchange.
