Strengths, Needs & Priorities -- Developing a Plan of Action
The Campus Diversity Mapping Project revealed that only five percent of our diversity efforts are focused on staff. In light of this, a Diversity Dialogue for SSU Staff is taking place Friday, March 18 from 11 a.m.-noon in Schulz 3001.
The gathering will briefly apprise staff of the various diversity efforts underway on campus and to get feedback about creating diversity oriented training for staff based on staff members' needs and priorities.
President Armiñana has authorized staff to attend this gathering as professional development. This meeting is separate from lunch hour or breaks. It is a time for staff to enhance and hone communication skills.
The event was conceived by Dr. Elisa Velasquez, Diversity Coordinator for the campus. She is charged with increasing multicultural competence among staff, faculty and students, and has created a committee to plan this event. Committee members include Laurel Holmstrom, Erma Jean Sims, Joyce Suzuki and Dolores Bainter.
