The Special Section Award comes for "The Harry Potter Generation Grows Up" and the column award for arts and entertainment editor Laura Finmand's column "The Moral of The Story". Finmand was also complimented for her commentary on the vampire phenomenon in popular culture.

"I am very proud of the STAR students," said Chip McAuley, STAR advisor. "The staff does an excellent job each week to put out an exceptional newspaper. I would like to congratulate Laura Finmand, Editor In Chief Erin Guenther and the rest of the members of the STAR on a job well done. I'm glad their excellence has been recognized by this prestigious journalism organization."

The California College Media Association represents university newspapers throughout California.
