Jonah Raskin, professor of communication studies and author of "Field Days: A Year of Farming, Eating and Drinking Wine in California," will be in conversation with Christian Caiazzo, chef/owner of restaurant Osteria Stellina, about farming, cooking and eating, at the Petaluma Arts Center (230 Lakeville Street, Petaluma) on Saturday, April 30 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
"Field Days" is an account of Raskin's yearlong journey of Sonoma County's farms, farmworkers and winemakers, during which he worked on organic farms, at farmers' markets and in kitchens. Called a "poetic love letter to Sonoma County" by Farmbrarian.com, "Field Days" was named one of the 50 Notable Bay Area Books of 2009 by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Osteria Stellina is located in Point Reyes Station, and was opened by Caiazzo in 2008. The Italian menu features hyper-local coastal ingredients, and "fresher-than-fresh locally grown food." For more information, visit the website at www.osteriastellina.com.
