Sapphires Dancing Their Way Into Spring

Award-Winning Dance Team Presents Spring Show, "Unscripted"

sapphires.jpegIt's been a whirlwind year for the Sonoma State Sapphires Dance Team. The twenty-member female team has competed and placed in two national competitions, performed at scores of sporting events, and will present their spring dance show, "Unscripted" on April 9-10.

The Sapphires are an audition-based sports team, whose spirited performances can be seen at men's and women's basketball, soccer and baseball games, pep rallies, parades, community events and more.

Beyond campus performances, the Sapphires are a nationally competitive dance team. They attended their first national competition in 2009.

In January 2011, the Sapphires traveled to Orlando, Florida for the Universal Dance Association College Nationals, and placed 11th out of 27 teams.

Only a few weeks later, the team traveled to Southern California for the USA Nationals and brought home the 2nd place trophy for Division II and III schools.

But the Sapphires haven't stopped there. This year's annual spring dance show is titled, "Unscripted," and takes place Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m. in Ives 101.

The self-choreographed performances will consist of dance routines varying from jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, musical theatre, tap, pointe, latin jazz, and more.

One-dollar raffle tickets will be on sell for gift baskets, and Spring Show CDs featuring the music from "Unscripted" will be available for $2.

Admission is free for SSU students with ID, $7 for seniors and children, and $10 general admission.
