SSU Welcomes a New Career Advisor

jp.jpegIn January, the Career Services Office welcomed JP Villafuerte as the new Career Advisor and Program Specialist.

Villafuerte comes to Sonoma State University from Los Angeles, where he was employed as an Associate Director for University Relations with Golden Key International Honour Society; an Atlanta based non-profit organization that provides leadership and scholarship opportunities to high performing college students.

"I am excited at the opportunity for growth here at Sonoma State University. My vision is to enhance Sonoma State University's brand by preparing our students to compete effectively in the job market and to attract the top employers to recruit from our talented pool of students. "

Villafuerte brings to Career Services a unique blend of experience from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, as well from the multiple higher education institutions where he has worked.

As an Associate Director with Golden Key, Villafuerte collaborated with more than 50 universities nationwide to help provide high-achieving students with leadership and scholarship opportunities. Prior to Golden Key, he was employed as a career advisor at Michigan State University and was responsible for helping undergraduate and graduate level students navigate their career goals. Villafuerte also worked as a professional recruiter for Aerotek Inc., one of the nation's leading firms in the staffing industry.

Villafuerte's educational background includes a Bachelor's of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Public Relations from San Diego State University and a Master's of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Michigan State University.

Sonoma State University Career Services supports and empowers students to be active participants in the career development process.
