The University Art Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition "The Future is Now: New Bay Area MFA Graduates," which opens Thursday, Sept. 8, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011. A reception for the artists, open to the public, takes place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the day of the exhibition's opening.
"The Future is Now: New Bay Area MFA Graduates" is a selection of emerging artists from several of the region's most distinguished art studio graduate programs and features eleven men and women who received their Master of Fine Art degrees in May and June of 2011.
Their work ranges from both abstract and narrative painting and ghostly photographs of imagined landscapes to "refabricated" ceramic sculpture and video installations. While by no means comprehensive, "The Future is Now" is nonetheless an exhilarating look at the next generation of Bay Area artists.
Featured artists include Shenny Cruces (San Francisco State University); Katie Dorame (California College of the Arts); Kathleen Eastwood (San Francisco Art Institute); Noah Krell (California College of the Arts); Chris Morring (San Francisco State University); Mitsu Okubo (San Francisco Art Institute); Chelsea Pegram (Mills College); Manuel Fernando Rios (University of California, Davis), Amber Stucke (California College of the Arts), David Gregory Wallace (University of California, Berkeley) and Bing Zhang (San Francisco Art Institute).
The University Art Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (707) 664-2295.
