Over 200 Sonoma State University students, faculty, staff, and local community members attended the third annual 5K Tour de Campus on Saturday, Oct. 1. The event, hosted by SSU's School of Business and Economics, raised over $4,000 to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Sonoma County. The three-mile race around SSU's campus was followed by live music from Hip Hug Her and a ceremony recognizing participants for various awards.
Kyle Steinfelt, active member of SSU's Accounting Forum, came dressed in full business attire and was eager to outrun the dean of the School of Business and Economics. Steinfelt not only beat Dean Silver, but was also the first to cross the finish line and receive the award for fastest race time. "The Dean's Challenge really motivated me to win the race. Beating him was very satisfying," said Steinfelt.
One final award, the 2011 Students' Choice Award, was given to Joe Standridge, a business professor and advisor for the School's Accounting Forum. The students recognized Professor Standridge for his dedication to providing high standards of scholarship, commitment to advising, and outstanding service to all students. "Joe goes above and beyond to help his students succeed in both academics and their future careers. His enthusiasm and community networks offer students internship and job opportunities that they may not have been otherwise exposed to," said business and economics senior, Alex Sorci.
The 5K Tour de Campus was a memorable experience for all who attended. Be sure to mark your calendar for next years' fourth annual race.
