In the Indian territory of Oklahoma, at the turn of the twentieth century, two young cowboys compete with a ranch hand and a traveling peddler for the hearts of the young women they love. Set against the backdrop of a conflict between farmers and ranchers in 1907 Oklahoma, this musical tells the story of two pairs of lovers. Curly, a cowboy, and Laurey have trouble admitting their feelings for each other, due to their stubbornness. Jud, the hired hand on Laurey's farm, is also in love with Laurey. Her friend, Ado Annie is torn between Will, a cowboy who has just gotten back from an exciting trip to Kansas City, and Ali Hakim, a "peddler man" who likes Ado Annie but doesn't want to marry her. Laurey's Aunt Eller and other community members complete the cast of characters illustrating the joys and dilemmas of creating a "brand new state." -Lynne Morrow, Music Director
