The Sonoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced that it is actively seeking nominations for its 2014 SSU Athletics Hall of Fame induction class. This year's ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 25 at the Student Center. Deadline for nominations is March 20.
The Sonoma State University Athletics Hall of Fame was founded in 1998 to recognize the outstanding athletic achievements of its former students and the meritorious efforts of alumni and friends on behalf of the University's athletic program.
The 2013 induction class featured former student-athletes Kim Abbott, Jim Baker, Bill Belander, Paige Dumont, J.T. Tipton, and Tara Whiteside. In addition, the 2002 national champion men's soccer team was honored.
In order to be eligible for induction, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria:
Must have played at least two seasons of varsity competition at Sonoma State University. Under special circumstances, a nominee may be considered with less than two complete seasons.
A five-year period must have elapsed from the most recent participation in the intercollegiate athletic program.
Each nominee must have demonstrated good citizenship both in school and after leaving the University.
Non-student-athletes and/or teams may be eligible for special category induction for significant contributions to the athletics program. There is no waiting period for induction into the Hall of Fame for individuals in the special category, but teams must wait ten years before being considered.
