GIS geographic information system...
Introduction
The Northwest Information Center (NWIC) is developing and maintaining a Geographicic Information System (GIS) of Resources and Studies recorded within the Information Center's geographic area.
This inventory is electronically maintained in two seperate databases, one a Microsoft Access database and the other an ESRI GIS geodatabase. The databases are interconnected through their respective customized applications of MS Access and ESRI ArcMap. These two customized applications and thier corresponding database components as well as electronic copies of the resource records and study reports comprise the NWIC GIS.
MS Access Component
The MS Access Database component of the NWIC' system inventories all resource records and study reports kept on file. Record or Study Identifier numbers are assigned and the pertainent attribute information for each item is recorded as a database record. These electronic records are then easily accessable through a user friendly, customized MS Access application. The application can search by multiple quieries and produce various reports which have been designed to meet the NWIC's workflow.
