Matt James, Professor of Geology at SSU, began Internet-based watchdog efforts in January 1995 designed to call attention to the ecological crisis being triggered by over-fishing of sea cucumbers in the waters off the Galapagos Islands. Working with colleagues in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, Dr. James maintains a Web page devoted to monitoring the Galapagos situation, including the political, cultural, and economic factors involved, and the ongoing conservation efforts being made to control the damage.
