Ecocultural Tourism in Bali and Lombok
Dr. W.J. "Rocky" Rohwedder is working with the Center for Indonesian Studies and Ecodevelopment. The primary focus at present is the establishment of an ecocultural tourism project in Lombok. The two-phased project is with the Wetu Tulu villages, which are located high up on the rain forest-covered slopes of Mt. Rinjani. The Wetu Tulu villagers, who are animists, are establishing:
1) ecocultural tour guide program for trips to the top of Rinjani.
2) a woman's cooperative to serve meals to ecotourists and to teach nutrition to fellow villages.
3) a homestay project for tourists which features environmental technologies for power generation and waste management.
