Overview

The chief goals of this course are, first, to prepare you in practical ways to be a successful beginning teacher of mathematics, and second, to establish a foundation on which you can build to become a successful professional teacher of mathematics. We will read, discuss, and participate in activities related to all of the course strands below. Discussions, activities, and assignments will be integrated with your concurrent observation/participation field experience: your school classroom will be a laboratory where you can observe and experiment, and our university classroom will be a forum for sharing, analyzing, and learning from your field experience.

The content and methods of this course reflect current thinking about mathematics education as expressed in NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics. Click to see a list of specific course objectives.
