Requirements for Participation

Learners are expected to attend the virtual classroom by logging-on at least 5 out of 7 days of each week. Of course, just logging-on is not the same as "participating." The expectation is that an average participant will actively "attend" class 5 of 7 days per week. WebCT automatically records the date of each entry made to the system--whether it be a posting of an assignment, a response to one of the assignments, a comment on the work of another, or a question to the group or to your instructor. It's extremely important to generate and participate in class discussion. The understanding and application of concepts is best reinforced by "lessons learned" of others. From time to time we (Lou, Rachel, Babs, Roxanna, Liana, an occasional guest expert, and I) will interject comments, but for the most part, the discussions will be yours. Participation will be graded with respect to: Quality: Does your message reflect critical thinking? Does it have substance? Does it contribute in some way to the thinking of others? Frequency: Have you contributed to the discussion at least 5 times per week in addition to posting your own assignment(s)? Distribution: Are your messages distributed on various days throughout the week? (No "dump 'n' runs")
