What I Do at SSU

John began at SSU as a Guest Artist with the Theatre and Dance Departments in 1993, then joined the staff in 1995.  As an adviser and resource to students concerning the implementation of design ideas into practice for departmental, intra-university, and senior projects, John demonstrates techniques for scenic painting, audio recording and reinforcement, lighting design and execution, and scenery fabrication.  John is fully conversant with each of the five lighting and audio systems used in the Center for the Performing Arts venues, and is responsible for the maintenance and upgrading of these spaces.

My Bio

John received his B.A. in Theatre Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, and then continued his studies at The American University’s Arts Management Masters Degree program.  Before completion of this study, he helped to begin The Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., serving as Technical Director and Resident Designer.  From there John moved to the John F. Kennedy Center as Technical Director of the Theatre Lab, and Resident Designer/Technical Director for the Theatre for Young People.  Next John started his own production fabrication and support company, TCF, which included clients Kennedy Center, Fox TV, NBC Sports, Gannet Corporation, and the White House Communications Agency.  Mr. Connole moved to Sonoma County in 1990 to join the Theatre Arts faculty at Santa Rosa Junior College.  He has served as Technical Director and Resident Designer for the Spreckels Performing Arts Center and Cinnabar Theatre.  Mr. Connole has received three awards from Dramalogue Magazine for Design, honored by the City of Rohnert Park City Counsel, and served as a Guest Artist for the CSU Summer Arts Program.
