What I Do at SSU

My Bio

MA, San Francisco State University
BA, University of California, Berkeley
AA, College of Marin

Judy Navas taught drama at the School of Arts & Sciences in San Anselmo, College of Marin, and Mt. Zion Hospital before SSU. Judy pioneered a Drama class for adolescent psychiatric patients under the guidance of Eric Erricson at Mt. Zion.  She has studied a wide range of theatre techniques from some of the most influential forces in contemporary theater including Sam Shepard, The Polish Laboratory Theatre, Martin Esslin, and Joseph Chaikin.  She studied mime and mask with Leonard Pitt and puppetry in the Netherlands.

Judy has directed and toured Tennessee Williams plays to critical acclaim in New Orleans, Louisiana and Clarksdale, Mississippi.  Judy also directed the premier performance of Jack London's play, The Acorn Planters as part of the Jack London Lecture Series at Sonoma State University.  Judy's more recent directing credits at SSU include Noises Off!, What The Butler Saw, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Waiting for Godot; as well as original performances based on such works as T.S. Eliot's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and last season, Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi.
