Advising Instructions

General Advising

  1. Print out, and bring with you, a copy of your most recent degree progress report.
  2. Go to your assigned advisor’s drop-in office hours or contact them directly to set up an appointment.

Changing Major/Minor

  1. Obtain Change of Major form from Admissions and Records or the department office.
  2. Meet with your assigned advisor and ask them to sign the form. (Go to their drop-in office hours or contact them directly to set up an appointment.)
  3. Give the signed form to the department’s administrative coordinator and she will get the Department Chair’s signature and send it over to Admissions and Records.

Applying for Graduation

  1. Obtain the Graduation Application from Admissions and Records or the department. (Spring of Junior year.)
  2. Complete the forms to the best of your ability.
  3. Meet with your assigned advisor to go over the Graduation Application form and to sign off on it. (Go to their drop-in office hours or contact them directly to set up an appointment.)
  4. Give the forms to the department’s administrative coordinator and she will get the Department Chair’s signature and send it over to Admissions and Records.

Obtaining Advisor, Chair, or Dean Signatures

  1. Go to your assigned advisor’s drop-in office hours or contact them directly to set up an appointment. Have him/her sign your form.
  2. If the form requires the Department Chair and/or Dean’s signature/s, give the form to the department’s administrative coordinator. The form will be forwarded to the Chair and/or the Dean, and sent over to Admissions and Records, unless you request to return and pick it up in our student pick-up box.
