About the Preserves
The SSU Preserves provide lands, facilities, databases, and programs that inspire participation, collaboration, and innovation in education and research. Preserve lands and facilities are available for use by all persons engaged in investigation and learning in the arts and sciences.
The SSU Preserves are owned and managed by Sonoma State University and administered by the School of Science and Technology as a campus-wide resource. Our staff includes a Director, Reservation Manager and Education Coordinator, and SSU students employed through the SSU Instructionally Related Activities (IRA). Over 30 dedicated volunteers serve as docents in our education programs and on land management crews.
Our Preserves were generously donated to SSU by private donors. Programs and operations are primarily supported by donations and endowments. Many community members choose to support the SSU Preserves through generous and continued donations during our annual fund drive. These donations help us maintain annual projects and are imperative to the daily operation of our programs. The generosity of the Friends of the SSU Preserves makes it possible to continue our mission and achieve our goals. For more information about donation opportunities, see Donate to Preserves.
