OSBORN NATURALIST EDUCATOR TRAINING
The Naturalist Educator Training Program prepares university students and community members to lead guided tours of the Fairfield Osborn Preserve. During the program, participants will learn how to use pedagogical tools, natural history knowledge, and scientific research to cultivate a more environmentally literate citizenry.
The training program is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Internship units and special studies credit may be available for SSU students.
- Fall 2012 Infomational Meetings
- Aug 27 (Mon), Aug 28 (Tues), Aug 29 (Wed), Aug 30 (Thurs) and Sept 6 (Thurs) - 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm, @ Room 101, Darwin Hall, SSU Campus. Open to all interested participants. If you are interested, please just show up at one of our meetings!
Course Schedule
You must attend an informational meeting (above) to enroll in the Training. Our Naturalist Training Program consists of five consecutive Sundays, from 9 am to 5 pm. At the end of the training there is a quiz that all naturalists must pass.

Naturalist Opportunities
Graduates of the Naturalist Educator Training Program are eligible to serve as naturalists for the Osborn Elementary School Field Program and public hikes.
- Elementary School Field Trips - Trained Naturalists lead 3rd - 5th graders on tours of the Osborn Preserve (10 am to 2 pm in Spring and Fall). Pre-trip visits to the classroom prepare students for their trip to the Preserve.
- Saturday Public Hikes - Trained Naturalists lead community members on guided hikes of the Osborn Preserve (10 am Saturdays in Spring and Fall).
