Sonoma
State University was invited to join the Council of Public
Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), the prestigious group of 19
universities and colleges across the nation that are often
described as the “Public Ivies.” Sonoma State
is the only university to represent California in COPLAC. |
| With
the retirement of Provost Bernie Goldstein,
a new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs,
Dr. Eduardo Ochoa, has been selected.
Formerly the Dean of the School of Business at Cal Poly
Pomona, Dr. Ochoa joined the SSU administration in July
2003. |

Many long-time faculty retired, and we actively
hired new faculty. Approximately 20 new tenure-track
faculty members were hired annually during the past five years.
In 2002-2003 alone, thirty-three new tenure-track faculty were
hired. We consistently attracted outstanding teacher-scholars.
The amount of annual grant and contract awards
to Sonoma State University from external funding increased from
$11.2 million in 1998-1999 to $26.8 million in 2001-2002. This
is an increase of approximately 140%.
