The
Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center
opened in August 2000 and houses the University Library and
Information Technology. This is the third academic library
in the nation to offer an Automated Retrieval System (ARS)
for on-site storage and retrieval of materials.
|
The University Library joined a powerful automated resource-sharing
network of California academic libraries, providing
access to more than four million items. The Library continued
to add digital resources to its collections, which currently
offer 12,000 on-line journals, 5,000 E-Books, and approximately
100 subject databases.
The Waring Jones Reading Room was opened, featuring
a specialized collection of Jack London first editions
and other memorabilia. |

The Schulz
Information Center has become a highly attractive center for
the campus and community. Annual “traffic” in
2001-2002 totaled 750,000 visits. In the
same period approximately 13,500,000 visitors viewed the Library’s
web site. There were 300,000 circulation
transactions, 15,000 inter-library loan transactions,
68,000 information queries, and instruction
sessions for 6,500 students.
The University Library offers a state-of-the-art automated
system allowing almost seamless integration of all
library processes, including the end-user online catalog,
called Snoopy, which interfaces with the
ARS.
