Health Care Crisis in Sonoma County, a campus-community initiative and dialogue at SSU

 

Areas of particular interest found at the second seed grant dinner meeting

(From approximate 26 potential approaches to health care improvement given to local expert participants prior to the 10-24-06 meeting, they chose those five areas they found to be first priorities. (They limited their own votes to one per person per approach with a five vote personal maximum.) The five approaches are shown below.

Community Planning: A collaborative project [which] utilizes focused data

8 votes - Explore costs/savings/values potential through developing a possible virtual single payer health plan (or plans) model (one wording suggested: payer coalition)

6 votes - Set up a community health care data (clearinghouse and translation center) information gathering device - which generates broader information and analysis for the community, labor-management negotiators, and the community's health care planners.

5 votes - Explore options to increase the stability of the primary care community & explore direct negotiations between purchasers and providers.

Access to Care: A Collaborative Prevention Project

4 votes - Significantly support the local Children's Health Initiative - Toward comprehensive and accessible care for children - Assist in local fund development

4 votes - Develop other efforts to help capacity-building for community-based clinics - protect and build critical safety net and access to care
