Learning Together:

The Writing Center as Cosmopolis

In ancient Greece, the polis was the whole body of citizens, all of whom had a voice in public debate. The modern writing center, flourishing both on-and offline, offers a new millennial vision of the polis: a space where students, tutors, administrators, and colleagues are all citizens; a space where they can meet, learn, and grow across the many boundaries--social, cultural, institutional, and linguistic--that divide them.
