The following lesson plans were developed by classroom teachers while attending the NBISP "Teaching Africa" Institutes.
- Dawa Means Medicine - An exploration of the impact of oral tradition on healthcare practices. Grade 7 - History and English.
- The Abolition of Slavery in the United States - Within any nation, multiple perspectives and conflicting viewpoints will exist about the worth of an individual human life. Grade 8 - U.S. History and English.
- Harlem Renaissance - How do literature, music, and art reflect a period of time? Grade 11 - U.S. History.
- A Brief Look at Africa - The goals for this unit are for students to engage in learning through co-operative learning groups, and to show a basic understanding of African geography, literature, poetry, and history. High School - Advanced English Language Development (ELD).
- Scramble for Africa - This lesson is a group project where students compare European needs with African resources trying to determine the reasons for the rapid and violent colonization of Africa in the 19th Century. 10th Grade - Modern World History.
- Voices from Black America - How did 19th Century Black Americans deal with the challenges they faced and what impact did this have on American culture and government? 8th Grade - U.S. History
- African Museum Art Project - How do natural resources and the environment impact art? 10th Grade - Modern World History.
- African Textiles - How do textiles reflect the culture in which one lives? 10th Grade - Modern World History.
- What's Your Story? - Students will, throughout the course of the school year, discover the origins of stories, and tell their own stories using the book Learning to Swim in Swaziland as a model. 2nd Grade - Reading and writing.
