SSU Professor and NBISP Director
to Develop Educational Program in Brazil

The Fulbright Commission has awarded grant money to Robert Girling, Professor of Business Administration at Sonoma State University, and Miriam Hutchins, Director of the North Bay International Studies Project (NBISP). The grant will be used to develop a summer program at the Federal University of Sergipe in Brazil. The project will involve 12 elementary and secondary school teachers in class work, workshops, and development of instructional materials during a 5 week period in the summer of 2001.
The project's objective is to provide Northern California teachers with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of Brazil, and to build a continuing relationship between teachers, students, and schools in Northern California and Brazil. Participating teachers will share their knowledge with teachers while in Brazil, and will lead staff development workshops upon their return to California.
